Phosphorus Ink, an intuitive drawing offering by artist Laura Oxendine.
About the Offering
The offering includes 1-3 original pieces of abstract illustration based on an intuitive sketching session held remotely over video. All sessions are an hour, inclusive of a 30 minute sketching portion and a 30 minute discussion.During the sketching portion, you are invited to relax quietly while you and Laura listen to the same ambient music playlist.
During that time, Laura pulls a tarot card spread and a plant oracle card for you, selects a fragment of literary text from her book collection that supports what is present in the cards, then sketches for the remaining time. After the 30 minute sketching session is complete, you and Laura discuss what came up in the cards, and she shares the loose sketches with you. It’s important to note that at the end of the session, the initial sketches are rough drafts. In the following weeks, Laura completes the drawings, and once finished, they are shipped to you along with a type-designed print of your cards and text fragment. The final product is a type of snapshot of you and your energy body at that point in time and is never editioned or sold otherwise.

While she’s been making art for over 20 years, her sketchbook practice has taken center stage for the past few. Starting as a meditative “for her eyes only” loose way to make art, the practice has developed into its own universe of creatures, plants, visuals from dreams or meditative states, or completely abstract signs and symbols. Then she started sketching for others, and a universe of abstract imagery relevant to them came through.Laura describes this drawing offering as “of me, but not mine.” Meaning, showing up nearly every day in some way for art (sketching, reading, observing, gardening even) allowed for some sort of creative conduit to be made!

Laura Oxendine is a visual artist with a multidisciplinary practice integrating illustration, experimental video, poetry and macro photography into her work. While highly abstract in the final output no matter the medium, basic shapes, lines and limited color palettes are crafted and, oftentimes, animated in such a way to allude to organic forms and movement. On occasion, visual effects are paired as audio reactive elements to create a surreal space that fluctuates between feeling familiar and otherworldly. The abstract nature of the work keeps the scenes or illustrations open-ended, mysterious and suggestive.Laura’s visual art experience is bolstered by her role as co-owner and Creative Operations Director at Thrown Light - a fun-sized video studio owned and operated by Laura and her husband/creative director, Brian Campbell. Thrown Light creates creative video content for a number of different areas - nonprofits, academic and scientific institutions, white label agency work, video game trailers and live visuals for DJs and bands. She is also a complete plant-nerd and will be expanding upon her interests by integrating herbalism into her practice early next year. She holds a MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts (NY, NY).

What others are saying about their experience
"This was such a beautiful experience. What an amazing, unique, all encompassing offering. Laura's words of 'hard outer shells that were breaking down organically' are also very astute, eerily spot on. Lastly, the visual art she provided was beautifully captured. You truly are gifted, and this is a wonderful offering."

"First, reading Laura's beautiful note had me in tears. Second, the quality and care of everything included in the package is top notch and demonstrates how thoughtful she are. Third, the ART! It was one thing seeing them over zoom, but in person they are even more spectacular! Laura is so talented and gifted. I want to hang them all up and meditate on them. "
